Electronic Advance Data (EAD) is required for some destinations
To improve border control and security, we are required to digitally capture and transmit information for your items to the applicable international destination. This data includes the sender’s and receiver’s details and article contents. EAD must be sent to the customs officials in the destination country prior to your item arriving at the border.
EAD applies to any item requiring a customs form to be completed. This means all international parcels, International Courier letters and International Express letters sent to one of the destinations listed below will need EAD submitted.
Important note: If EAD has not been submitted in advance your item may be refused entry by customs officials in the destination country.
Information required for EAD
It's important all required information is completed on your customs form to generate complete EAD. This will ensure parcels aren't delayed or returned due to incomplete information.
EAD requires:
- sender’s details, including full name, address and one contact method (email address or phone number)
- receiver’s details, including full name, address and one contact method (email address or phone number)
- article details
- HS tariff code
- a good description
- goods value
- country of origin
- importer reference number/ID (if applicable).

Completing customs forms and providing EAD
You must fill out a customs declaration form for all international parcels, and International Courier and International Express letters. Depending on the destination, you may also be required to provide EAD.
Frequently asked questions
Items sent without EAD to countries that require it may be delayed in delivery, held by customs or returned to sender. US regulations permit their authorities to automatically return any items without EAD.
As EAD is required to be captured and transmitted for goods sent via Parcels and Express Letters, it is important that goods are not sent as Economy Air Letters as these will be deemed non-compliant. Any Economy Air letters containing goods may be held by customs or returned to sender.
If you’re sending a lot of items overseas frequently, use MyPost Business to fill out your customs declaration, print and pay for your postage label online. Use the bulk import function to create shipments quickly, and save on sending if you send more than 8 qualifying parcels over 8 weeks.
If you’ve filled out our online customs form, you’ll receive a QR code by email or SMS. Show this QR code or Customs Reference ID number to our team at the Post Office when lodging and paying for your article.
