How it works

If you’re going away or moving within Australia or overseas1, we can manage your letters and parcels with our mail redirection and mail hold services.

Depending on the service, you can apply to extend, alter or cancel your existing mail redirection or mail hold service online, over the phone or at the Post Office.

For business customers, view our mail redirection and mail hold services for business.

Proof of identity

You must prove your identity when applying for a mail redirection or mail hold service. For a concession service, you must also provide a concession card (if eligible).

Personal and concession service

Applying online

Provide one of the following identity documents:

  • Australian driver licence
  • Australian passport
  • Foreign passport with Australian visa
  • Australian birth certificate
  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • ImmiCard

If you are eligible and applying for concession service, you must also provide one of these concession cards:

  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • Health Care Card (all types)
  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Card
  • MyPost Concession Card
  • Norfolk Island Social Services Card
  • Veterans' Repatriation Health Card
Applying at the Post Office

Option 1. Provide one of the following identity documents:

  • Australian driver licence
  • Australian passport
  • Foreign passport with Australian visa
  • Australian birth certificate
  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • ImmiCard

OR

Option 2. Provide two documents - one from each category below:

  • A document with your name and Australian residential address (like a utility notice), and
  • A document with your signature (e.g. a Keypass or Statutory Declaration)

If you are eligible and applying for concession service, you must also provide one of these concession cards:

  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • Health Care Card (all types)
  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Card
  • MyPost Concession Card
  • Norfolk Island Social Services Card
  • Veterans' Repatriation Health Card
Home Office service

You must apply at a Post Office with photo ID showing your residential mailing address, and the relevant document:

  • Home office: a business certificate statement or tax statement
  • Trust (individual or company trust): a trust statement with your residential mailing address
  • Self-Managed Super Fund: an SMSF statement with your residential mailing address.

Update your mail redirection or mail hold service

Depending on the service, you can apply to extend, alter or cancel your existing mail redirection or mail hold service online, over the phone or at the Post Office. You'll need your 9-digit customer reference number.

Collect your parcels and letters from a PO Box

A PO Box is a safe, secure and permanent delivery option. Choose from a range of sizes and service lengths for all your mail.

1 You must apply for International mail redirection at the Post Office. Some mail can't be redirected overseas, including Registered Post, Cash on Delivery, Parcel Post, Express Post and items which require customs documentation. We are not able to redirect mail from an overseas address to an Australian address. Please refer to the local postal service in the country you would like your mail redirected from.
