Tracking delivery status
The tracking status of your item may not change quickly as there are a number of steps before delivery. For example, 'it's on its way' means your parcel has been posted by the sender, processed by us and is moving through our sorting facilities. Depending on how far your parcel needs to travel to be delivered, and the time of the year, the tracking status may be 'it's on its way' for a while.
Attempted delivery photo now available
Customers have told us that accurate and timely updates are a key part of a great delivery experience. And so, we’re now providing photo confirmation of an attempted delivery.
To see the photo, log in to the AusPost app, open the tracking for your parcel and click on View the attempted delivery photo. You can also request to view the photo by calling us or visiting a Post Office.
To opt out of attempted delivery photos, please call us on 13 POST (13 76 78).
Parcels may be delivered via another state
Our largest parcel processing centres are in Redbank QLD, Chullora NSW and Sunshine West VIC. We route our interstate parcels through one of these three facilities, which are capable of faster sorting and processing. For example, a regular parcel lodged in QLD destined for SA may be processed through our mechanised facility in Victoria.
This allows us to take advantage of the best sorting capabilities within our processing network to deliver your item as expected.
Lost or late items (Replace with Marketing block)
Most items generally arrive within 5 business days of their expected delivery date.1 If your item hasn’t arrived, you can view information on lost, late and damaged items, and if you’re entitled to compensation.
Frequently asked questions
Domestic and outgoing international items
Whether you can track your item, and how much tracking information is available, depends on which service was used to send it.

Track your item online now if you’ve used one of our trackable services.
Incoming international items
Whether or not tracking information is available for items sent to Australia from overseas depends on the postal or courier service used in the country the item is being sent from (fees may apply).
For more information on tracking an item you’re expecting from overseas, please contact the sender of the item and have them check with their delivery service.
Yes. We'll track the scan events for Registered Post prepaid envelopes and labels as they progress through our network. The number of tracking scans will vary depending on how (and where) the item is lodged, processed and delivered.
For example:
- A scan on lodgement, if lodged over the counter at any Post Office with electronic point of sale (EPOS);
- A scan at a processing facility, if processed by automated mail processing equipment; and
- A scan on delivery, where a tracking scan can be captured.
To receive the recipient's signature as further proof of delivery, please ask for the Delivery Confirmation service as an optional extra for an additional fee when posting your item over the counter at a Post Office.

Please note that International Post Registered has no tracking capabilities.
If you have a StarTrack Courier service account, you can track the status of your delivery online.
Simply log in now to the StarTrack Courier customer portal.
If you lodged your item in-store, make sure you provide your mobile number and email address so you can receive real-time tracking and electronic proof of delivery via SMS and/or email.
Where you can find your tracking number, or article ID, depends on what service was used to send your item and how it was posted.
For senders:
- If your item was posted over the counter at a Post Office
then in many cases your tracking number, or article ID, can be found on the receipt provided.
- If your item was sent using one of our tracked services such as prepaid satchels
your tracking number can be found on the barcode on your item, and/or on the removable sticker.
For receivers:
- If you're expecting delivery of an item and the sender has given us your email address
we'll send you emails to let you know your tracking number and the progress of your item as part of our free Track Advice service.
- If you've ordered an item online
the sender may have included the tracking number, or article ID, on your order confirmation or invoice.
There might sometimes be a delay in showing some track events for technical reasons.
If this happens, our tracking tool will only show the most recent and relevant track events, rather than showing notifications that are out of date or out of sequence.
For example, if a track event letting you know that your item is ’in transit’ is delayed, and meantime your item is delivered, you’ll only see the delivery notification.
Terms and conditions apply. View AusPost app for more details.
1 While we endeavour to meet this timetable, the actual delivery speed will depend on where in each state/territory the item is being posted from/to, and the level of congestion in our delivery network at the relevant time. All delivery times are based on the number of business days items take to arrive following the day of posting. See delivery times for specific routes and read about disruptions and updates to our services.
