How to apply for a PO Box or Private Bag
If you have a MyPost account you can apply online. If you’re not a MyPost customer, you can easily sign up for a free account. In your account, follow the link to ‘Collection Points’ at the top of the page and select ‘New PO Box’ from the ‘Add collection point’ menu.
Download and complete the application form (PDF 4.13MB) or ask for one at a participating Post Office. You’ll need to provide your driver licence to confirm your name, address and signature. If you don’t have a driver licence you’ll need to provide two forms of identification from the list below.

Fees and charges
PO Boxes and Private Bags can be leased for up to one year and then renewed annually. Our pro rata pricing runs from 1 April until 31 March the following year. A discount applies on an annual lease if the annual renewal is paid by 31 March each year (non-business customers only).
For new leases, an establishment fee is applicable, plus the balance of the annual pro rata price, depending on what month the lease begins. The pro rata charge for each month is one twelfth of the annual fee. Any lease that starts in February or March will include charges for a full year in addition to pro rata fees.
- Establishment fee: $27 (includes 2 keys)
- New lock: $34
- Extra keys: $16 per key
- Cancelling your PO Box or Private Bag: $37 (unused service fees exceeding $37 are refunded)
- Reactivation fee: $32. Applies if you wish to re-lease your cancelled PO Box or Private Bag. You can reactivate your service between 1 and 31 May, provided your previous box or bag hasn't been leased to someone else.

Mail2Day notifications
With our free Mail2Day service, we notify you by email when you have mail in your PO Box.
Choose this option on the application form (PDF 4.13MB) or online via your MyPost account.

Free 12-month PO Box
If you’ve been impacted by family and domestic violence within Australia, you may be eligible for a free PO Box for 12 months at a participating Post Office.
Free 6-month mail redirection for first time PO Box users
Lodge a mail redirection application in-store when you collect your PO Box keys and receive 6 months mail redirection for free.5
Important information
Renewal invoices are sent out in February each year. You can pay for up to 5 years in advance online or in person at a Post Office.
Renew online
- Pay with your credit card. Enter your invoice number and follow the prompts.
- Pay via your MyPost account with a credit card. Log in to your account and click 'alternative addresses'.
- Pay with your credit card or Paypal account using Post Billpay, using biller code 0060. Renewals cannot be paid through BPAY.
Renew in person at a participating Post Office.
Renew over the phone with a credit card on 13 18 16.
If your parcel is too big to fit in your PO Box we’ll put it in one of our red door PO Boxes and leave the key in your PO Box.2
If the red door service isn’t available, we’ll leave a card in your PO Box advising collection from the counter at your Post Office.
PO Box Plus gives you a unique mailing address so you can receive all your parcels at your PO Box, including up to 50 parcels per year from third-party carriers, not just Australia Post or StarTrack.6 After 50 third-party parcels have been delivered, a $3 fee per parcel applies, payable on collection.
PO Box Plus is available at participating Post Offices to personal customers only.

Supporting those impacted by family and domestic violence
If you’ve been impacted by family and domestic violence within Australia, you may be eligible for a free PO Box for 12 months at a participating Post Office.
Apply in person at a participating Post Office with a completed PO Box application form (4.13MB). Forms are also available at the Post Office.
If you have access to email you can opt into our Mail2Day service, so we can notify you when an item is ready for collection.
Once approved, you will receive free access to a PO Box for 12 months. After 12 months, you can choose to continue to access the PO Box service as a paid service.
Supporting the homeless and disadvantaged with free PO Boxes in Sydney and Adelaide
If you’re experiencing homelessness or disadvantage in Sydney or Adelaide, you may be eligible for a free PO Box for 12 months at a participating Post Office.
How to apply
Sydney: Apply in person at a participating Post Office with a letter of introduction from the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies).
Adelaide: Apply in person at any participating Post Office. Please bring a letter of referral from Toward Home Resolve at The Salvation Army.
