Frequently asked questions
To receive proof of posting, your Registered Post or International Post Registered item must be lodged over the counter at a Post Office. Your lodgement receipt will be postmarked as proof of posting.
If a Registered Post item is posted in a street posting box it will not have proof of posting.
To ensure your domestic Registered Post item is only delivered to the addressee, you can affix a pre-paid person-to-person label to your envelope.
Using these labels means that ID will be requested and the item will only be handed over to the intended recipient. These labels are available from Post Offices for use with Registered Post for an additional fee.
A person-to-person article will be delivered to the addressee, except where:
- the addressee is a minor (it will be delivered to a parent or guardian)
- the addressee has given us prior written authority requesting delivery to a nominated person
- it is impractical for us to deliver to the addressee (this is at Australia Post's discretion).
Please note: person-to-person delivery is not available with Registered Post International.
You can request delivery confirmation for an additional fee when lodging your domestic Registered Post item. The delivery confirmation card will be returned to you by post with the recipient's signature.
International Post Registered provides a signed record of delivery for certain destination countries.
Yes. We'll track the scan events for Registered Post prepaid envelopes and labels as they progress through our network. The number of tracking scans will vary depending on how (and where) the item is lodged, processed and delivered.
For example:
- A scan on lodgement, if lodged over the counter at any Post Office with electronic point of sale (EPOS);
- A scan at a processing facility, if processed by automated mail processing equipment; and
- A scan on delivery, where a tracking scan can be captured.
To receive the recipient's signature as further proof of delivery, please ask for the Delivery Confirmation service as an optional extra for an additional fee when posting your item over the counter at a Post Office.
