Emrah DITL - fave thing ending

0:00
Hi everyone. Come on, let's go see what it's like to be a van driver at Australia Post hey
[Video] Emrah (a man with dark hair and a beard, wearing a high vis shirt and vest) stands next to his Australia Post red van speaking to the camera

0:05
In our morning shifts we grab whatever mail we need that's on our checklist for the day and deliver them where they need to go
[Video] Emrah gets into the drivers’ side of the van. Emrah walks towards a cage inside the facility with some parcels on it. He ties up some bags filled with parcels and puts them on the cage

0:10
Throughout the day we'll have other mail that we deliver our customers that we pick up from the post office
[Video] Emrah takes the cage to his van, opens the side of the van and unloads the contents of the cage into the van. He gets into the driver’s side of the van.

0:14
In the afternoon shift, we're not really delivering.
[Video] The van reverses out of it’s spot inside the facility

0:15
We're picking up from all the different retail stores or wherever it might be that's on our scanner for that day and then come back with a van full of mail, drop them off into the facility
[Video] Inside the van, Emrah is driving the van. The van is then seen driving through the carpark at the Australia Post facility and into the entrance of the facility. Emrah reverses into an available space, opens up the back of his van next to the conveyor belt and begins to unload the packages from the van.

0:24
In the morning, all this is empty.
[Video] Emrah gestures to the empty facility, camera pans to show an empty floor

0:25
Us van drivers, we come and park in these spots over here in the morning when it's quiet and then, and inside this cage, that's where all the parcel lockers are sorted for all the various different suburbs.
[Video] Emrah points to spaces in the facility where he would park. A red van is seen pulling into one of the spots. Emrah walks down the safe walking path of yellow striped lines and points to a caged room

0:34
The post office will have maybe 7 or 8 different businesses that gets their mail delivered to the post office.
[Video] Emrah stands in front of 3 empty cages and speaks to camera. He is seen inside his van driving around the facility carpark.

0:40
And then it's us as drivers responsibility to go and collect those letters or those PO Boxes or those parcels or whatever the, the Postie can't deliver because they're too big or they don't go into that actual area, us drivers, us van drivers will come and take it from the post office.
[Video] Emrah drives around the carpark of the facility. He continues to speak to camera in front of the empty cages

0:55
We need to make sure that when we're sorting our vans we're very organised as to where we put everything.
[Video] Emrah closes the doors to the back of the van. He stands in front of ULDs and points to some of the different ones

1:00
It just makes the whole process a lot easier.
[Video] Camera pans across ULDs labelled ‘Small Parcels’ and ‘Large Parcels – All states’

1:02
We call this area the array. So the vans will back up into here, they'll take their bags out, the bags will then get placed inside these cages and then all the larger boxes will get taken to the belt.
[Video] Emrah stands in front of the ULDs in the array and gestures where the vans park. There ae no vans parked there at the moment. Emrah stands in front of the empty array and talks to the camera

1:10
But this is the conveyor belt that all the larger boxes get put onto.
[Video] Emrah walks next to the conveyor belt with packages moving along it, and points to the conveyor belt

1:13
The drivers will reverse into the spots and place the boxes on the belt, which then get sent around the facility.
[Video] Emrah unloads boxes from inside the van onto the conveyor belt

1:18
I'll be in Werribee for three weeks, I'll be in Altona another three weeks, I'll be in the city for another month. So I'd go somewhere different every every week. It's just such a great place to work.
[Video] Emrah stands inside an empty facility and speaks directly to camera

Ashish DITL V2

0:00
Let's see what it's like a forklift driver in Australia Post
[Video] Ashish (a man with dark hair and glasses wearing a hi vis jumper) sits in a forklift in an Australia Post facility

0:02
We are moving all the ULD stacking, unstacking all the ULDs and then give it to the staff to process.
[Video] In the distance, Ashish uses the tugger to raise a ULD off the ground. Two colleagues in hi vis work next to some ULDs and chat to each other

0:08
We can't drive the forklift inside because of the people walking through as well.
[Video] Ashish uses the tugger to place down a ULD

0:13
Outside, we are offloading and loading the truck and then we will take the products inside to process.
[Video] Ashish drives a forklift towards a red truck filled with ULDs. The forklift removes two ULDs from the truck and brings them to ground level

0:18
So yeah, this is the dock.
[Video] Ashish walks into the dock which is empty

0:20
You know, the trucks keep coming and we have to offload and load as well.
[Video] A blue StarTrack truck drives through the dock

0:24
Every day we do a safety checks like the brakes and lights and the gas.
[Video] Ashish checks the inside of the ULD then stands next to the forklift and talks directly to camera

0:28
It's like a fun environment.
[Video] Ashish stands towards the back of the dock near an empty wall and talks to someone behind the camera

0:30
You have a friendly colleague, make a, you know, bit of laugh and try to make your day very nice.
[Video] Ashish walks through the facility. In the dock, he walks towards some colleagues in hi-vis and speaks to them

Truck Driver

Nicole DITL

0:00
There's going to be a lot of boxes, a lot of handling, jumping in and out of the truck.
[Video] Nicole (a woman in hi-vis with curly hair) looks at boxes next to a StarTrack truck and starts to pick some up, ready to load into the truck

0:05
I've just found a couple that belong over here. We're getting somewhere. Because you get quite a lot of boxes that are 15/20 kilos.
[Video] Nicole continues to move boxes around and uses a trolley to move some of the boxes

0:13
You really need to bend your knees when you're picking things up and pack things accordingly.
[Video] Nicole repetitively squats down to pick up large boxes safely

0:19
You sort of go at your own pace.
[Video] Nicole speaks directly to camera

0:20
On a normal day we'd have 49 deliveries up to 8 pickups, so we would see somewhere around the vicinity of 55 customers in a day.
[Video] Nicole gets into the truck, closes the driver side door, begins to drive and scans her pass to exit the facility

0:30
We would have anywhere up to 250 cartoons on the truck depending how much bulk there is.
[Video] Nicole waves goodbye to a colleague as she exits the facility and continues to drive

0:38
One thing I always try to do is call people by their names.
[Video] Nicole opens the back of the truck, revealing the parcels she previously packed. Nicole uses a trolley to transport some of the parcels to her first delivery spot

0:42
So when I walk in and I say their names they they love it.
[Video] Nicole walks into a retail clothes store, has an interaction with a blonde woman that works at the store and shows her the scanner with the delivery information on it

0:45
So as you can see, some of the spots are quite tight.
[Video] Nicole walks towards the camera beside her truck

0:48
So when we get back to the depot, we unload all our returns and our pickups.
[Video] Nicole is speaking to the person next to the camera with her blue StarTrack truck behind her.

0:53
Then we back onto the dock, go over the vehicle, just make sure that it's nice and clean, ready for the next day, collect our bags and go home.
[Video] We see a Nicole driving the truck into the facility and reversing the truck into it’s designated space. Nicole exits the truck and inspects the front of the truck

1:01
This is a job where you're constantly on the go, a job where you're not stuck, you're out and about.
[Video] Nicole speaks to a man off screen next to the conveyor belt. Nicole speaks directly to camera while standing inside the back of her truck. The truck is parked on a residential street, Nicole opens the back of the truck, gets into the truck and carries some large boxes along a footpath

1:07
It's always a different view and that's what I love about it.
[Video] Nicole drives the truck and ends the video speaking to camera from inside the back of her truck

Day in the life of a Parcel Sorter
0:00
Here is where they back up the trailer.
[Video] A red AusPost truck is backed at the dock of the facility with its back doors open.
0:01
Here we have something called the long reach.
[Video] Melissa, a woman with long brunette hair wearing a high-vis vest stands at the back of a truck with
its doors open. Two male team members are in the background unloading boxes onto the long reach
conveyor belt.
0:03
It moves up and down, in and out so the stock gets a better reach. I really enjoy this role.
[Video] Two men, one bald and one with short black hair, both wearing high-vis, are unloading boxes from
the back of the track to the long reach conveyor belt. The long reach is on, and the boxes are moving
along it after they are placed on the belt.
0:08
Cause you have somebody there with you.
[Video] Melissa stands at the back of a truck with its doors open. Two male team members are in the
background unloading boxes onto the long reach conveyor belt.
0:10
Here we have the one conveyor
[Video] Melissa is now on the floor of the facility, walking towards the camera and gesturing towards the
One Conveyor
0:16
What can't go on the machine, the odd parcels, the round parcels making the machine can handle. We'll go here.
[Video] Team members working from afar, all wearing high-vis, are standing all along both sides of the
One Conveyor, taking parcels of all shapes and sizes from the ULDs and placing onto the belt which is in
motion.
0:16
Below us we have direct drop.
[Video] Melissa is now standing on an elevated walkway in the facility gesturing below her towards
another belt that is in motion.
0:18
Were the parcel just drops down into the ULD and the workers flatten out the ULD to make sure all the space in
the ULD is used.
[Video] Top-down shot of the belt in motions and parcels of all shapes and sizes drop from the belt into
ULDs which are lined up on either side of the belt. Workers in high-vis are walking by the ULDs.
0:24
Here below us we’ve got Singulation
[Video] Melissa is standing on an elevated walkway in the facility gesturing below her.
0:26
Staff have to distinguish the parcels 1 by 1 and make sure the barcode is facing up.
[Video] Two women in high vis standing on either side of a blue conveyor belt which is in motion. They are
handling the parcels, flipping them so the barcodes are facing the top.
0:29
We sort about 320,000 parcels per day
[Video] Melissa is standing on an elevated walkway in the facility talking to the camera.
0:32
Here we have the chutes, or it's also known as take-off.
[Video] Melissa is standing on the facility floor talking to the camera and gesturing to her left to the ULDs
beside her. Workers in high-vis are working in the background behind her.
0:34
Parcels come down the chute and the staff member here just scans the parcel.
[Video] A woman with black hair and glasses wearing high vis scans a large box that is placed at the end
of a blue chute.
0:38
The computer at the top will tell you what ULD it’s going into.
[Video] The camera pans left from the end of the blue chutes to the row of ULDs lined up next to the
chute.
0:41
Parcels are coming in on a long reach and they're taking parcels 1 by 1 and pretty much playing Tetris.
[Video] Melissa stands at the back of a truck with its doors open. Two team members are in the
background unloading boxes onto the long reach conveyor belt using a flashlight because it is quite dark.
0:46
We build walls about a metre each. The reason for that is during transit, the truck obviously goes side to side.
The boxes pretty much go at the front
[Video] The camera pans to the right along the long reach that has parcels moving along it into the truck
towards where the team members are stacking them into the trailer.
0:53
And all the soft satchels go at the back
[Video] Melissa stands at the back of a truck with its doors open. Two team members are in the
background unloading boxes onto the long reach conveyor belt using a flashlight because it is quite dark.
0:55
[Video] Top-down shot of the belt in motions and parcels of all shapes and sizes move along the belt.
Workers in high-vis are walking either side of the belt.
0:56
[Video] Wide shot of the outside of the facility. There are blue StarTrack trucks parked to the left with the
facility building behind them, the AusPost logo in red on the side of the building. The sun is shining.
