You can send perishable items such as food in the post, subject to state quarantine restrictions. Visit the Australian Interstate Quarantine website to check restrictions for each state.

Download our Dangerous and prohibited goods and packaging guide (PDF 1.1MB) for more information.

    Sending overseas

If you're planning to send food or perishable items overseas, check with customs or border protection in the destination country for any restrictions.

Our International Post Guide may also help.

No, we don’t offer a ‘do not bend’ service.

In order to help protect an item from being bent or crushed during transit, it’s important to package it appropriately, including using thick, unbendable card on both sides.

See our packaging options to help your item arrive undamaged. You can purchase packaging at your local Post Office or online.

Due to safety regulations, some items are classified as ‘dangerous and prohibited goods’, which means they either can’t be posted, or can only be posted under certain conditions.

Some common examples of dangerous and prohibited goods include:

    • lithium batteries
    • perfume
    • tobacco and tobacco products
    • alcohol
    • perishable goods
    • plants and animals

Please check Dangerous and Prohibited items for complete details and restrictions on sending these and other items.

If you send an item 5kg or under in Australia, using our flat rate packaging range, you’ll pay the flat rate postage based on the size of the package, rather than the weight and destination. See flat rate postage costs,
