Loleia and Outer Ego unlocked overseas success with the support of Australia Post. Find out how.
Video: Swimwear designs are arranged on a wall. Title: 'Going Global with Loleia Swim'. A dark-haired woman and a red-haired woman discuss them. Colourful bikinis dropped in a pile all feature a 'Loleia' tag. The dark-haired woman is interviewed on a couch. Text: "Leia, Founder & Designer, Loleia Swim." In split screen videos, young women show off colourful swimwear.
Audio: Leia: I'm Leia and I'm the founder of global swimwear label Loleia Swim, founded in Australia, in Perth, in my mum's spare bedroom. Now we ship worldwide.
Video: Leia throws a bikini into the camera, then laughs. Text: "What was the vision for the brand?" Photos of models in swimwear are displayed on walls. Leia and the redhead hold fabric swatches against the striped top Leia's wearing. Swimwear is packed in a cloth bag, then an Australia Post mailing box. Leia examines an array of promotional photos on a tablet. Leia, the redhead, and a brunette examine fabric.
Audio: Leia: The vision for Loleia came from the tropics and the '80s and knowing that it is always summer somewhere. So, in that sense, we've been able to grow the business, go global, and run a powerhouse from Perth.
Video: Text: "How did you navigate expanding globally." Leia parks near a bank of PO boxes. She takes large Australia Post sacks from her boot. At the service window, she shakes hands with an Australia Post employee, then shows him the sacks. He takes them inside. In the post office, satchels, envelopes and boxes are displayed under the sign 'Sending Overseas'. An employee tidies shelves. Leia slides parcels over the counter.
Audio: Leia: Everyone wants to grow their business, but, you know, you have to learn a lot fast. The MyPost Business app has helped me greatly shipping internationally. It's a very user-friendly platform, so you just log in, type the country you want to send to. It'll prompt you with what tariff codes you might need, importer codes, the costing it's going to, like, take per weight. Everything's there, and if you do need further assistance, like I call my local post office, Jag always helps me out, or there is online services and you can contact Australia Post and everyone's always really willing to help you.
Video: Text: "How has global expansion grown Loleia?" In an office, Leia and the redhead examine fabric designs on a computer.
Audio: Leia: Since growing Loleia globally, we now ship over 40% of our orders internationally. As soon as it, like, Australian summer ends, we're sending the exact same amount to the US customers.
Video: Text: "What surprised you most about shipping internationally with AusPost?" Leia wraps bikinis in yellow paper, puts them in a standard international post satchel, holds up the satchel, then gives a playful smile. Designs of colourful bikinis emerge from a printer, then are stuck on a wall. A labelled sketch of an outfit is updated.
Audio: Leia: So the other thing that is really cool about Australia Post and shipping internationally is that the more you ship, the more you save. So we've been able to get up to band five through shipping lots through Australia Post, and now the savings are, like, there's no other carrier service that can compare.
Video: Text: "How does it feel seeing Loleia Swim go global?" Videos show models wearing swimwear in a studio and at the beach. Swimwear is displayed on a ladder near a seaside railing. Models pose on a boat.
Audio: Leia: How does it feel knowing that Loleia is so global? It feels incredible. It is an out-of-body experience. I am very proud of myself. Having friends all over the world showing me pictures... Loleia's been spotted here, Loleia's been spotted there. So, pretty amazing.
Video: In a split screen, Leia speaks from the left side. On the right, a list appears in white on a red background: "Go global with MyPost Business.
On a red background, the Australia Post logo appears above the words "Go global with Australia Post." A search box contains "auspost.com.au".
Video: Identical twins with long brown hair, tanned skin and matching pink tops sit before a sign that reads 'Outer Ego'. Products with pink and orange packaging are displayed on a table. Title: "Going Global with Outer Ego." A postcard featuring the twins and a handwritten thankyou message is placed inside a parcel. The twins are interviewed on a couch. Text: "Victoria & Jacqui, Founders, Outer Ego."
Audio: Victoria: My name is Victoria Hondrou.
Jacqui: And I'm Jacqui Hondrou. Victoria: But most people know us as...
Victoria and Jacqui: The Hondrou Twins.
Video: On a driveway, they hold up pink marketing T-shirts that feature Polaroid photos of the twins. Text: "How did you launch Outer Ego?" The twins duck under a rising door and enter a garage. Boxes are piled near two desks. In TikTok videos, hands in purple gloves smooth tanning mousse on a leg, and the twins demonstrate self-tanning wearing various outfits.
Audio: Victoria: We launched our business Outer Ego by Hondrou Twins in our parents' garage.
Jacqui: Yeah.
Victoria: And it all started because Jacqui decided to do a tanning video...
Jacqui: Yeah.
Victoria: ..using gloves back in 2020.
Jacqui: And it was literally just a simple video of me tanning one leg to a TikTok sound. And I guess that's how we got into the tanning niche on TikTok.
Video: Text: "How did you navigate shipping internationally?" The twins carry parcels past Parcel Lockers and into a post office. They hand the parcels to the smiling young woman behind the council. They chat. The parcels are scanned.
Audio: Jacqui: We were nervous.
Victoria: I mean, we were very scared to send internationally.
Jacqui: Yeah.
Victoria: We had no idea about anything.
Jacqui: Mm-hm.
Victoria: Um, but we worked very closely...
Jacqui: Yeah.
Victoria: ..with Alanna from Brighton Post Office, and she literally showed us...
Jacqui: Mm-hm.
Victoria: ..what an international label looked like.
Video: "Text: What support did you receive navigating global shipping?" In the Brighton Post Office, the twins chat with Alanna.
Audio: Victoria: She helped us with, you know, the customs declaration form, um, the HS codes, and any specific information, like, a country would need...
Jacqui: Yeah.
Victoria: ..she would let us know. Yeah.
Jacqui: And it was actually really simple.
Video: They print a postage label from the MyPost Business website, then stick it onto a mailing box.
Audio: Victoria: They help us understand how MyPost Business works.
Jacqui: Yeah.
Victoria: So, like, the more you send...
Jacqui: The more...
Victoria: ..you send, the better rate you get.
Jacqui: Yeah.
Video: Text: "What portion of your customers are international?" The twins pack Outer Ego canisters, boxes and bottles into Australia Post mailing boxes and satchels.
Audio: Jacqui: You know what's so cool? So, like, 80% of customers...
Victoria: Are from overseas.
Jacqui: ..are from overseas, which is wild.
Victoria: I know. Since we've launched Outer Ego by Hondrou Twins and gone global, we've had 25,000 customers...
Jacqui: Wow.
Victoria: ..which is insane.
Video: In split screen videos, dark brown mousse is pumped into canister lids, eye droppers empty clear liquid into bottles, oblong brushes have long soft bristles. The twins take promotional T-shirts from boxes.
Audio: Jacqui: And we started off with one product, but now we've got three more. I think we've shipped around 50,000 bottles around the world.
Victoria: Yeah. That's insane when you think about it.
Jacqui: I know, when you say it.
Video: On a pink box, orange text reads, "Outer Ego by Hondrou Twins". The twins pack parcels and write on a postcard. Text: "What's your advice for businesses wanting to go global?"
Audio: Victoria and Jacqui: Just do it.
Jacqui: Literally.
Victoria: Literally. Just do it.
Jacqui: Yeah, it's...it's quite easy. Our local post office have been there from the beginning. Just having them there was a lifesaver.
Victoria: A li.... Yeah.
Jacqui: Our customers always say to us, "Oh, my gosh, it came so quickly. Yeah." And they're all the way over the other side of the world.
Video: In a split screen, the twins smile from the left side. On the right, a list appears in white on a red background: "Go global with MyPost Business.
On a red background, the Australia Post logo appears above the words "Go global with Australia Post." A search box contains "auspost.com.au".
