You can change your Australian cash at over 3,300 participating Post Offices across Australia. Convert coins to notes, notes to coins, or a mixture of both – all for a flat fee (subject to availability of cash at the Post Office).

You can change more than AU$1,000, but this will be processed as separate transactions.

If you’re converting $1,200, the first $1,000 would cost $14.40. The remaining $200 would be processed separately at a fee of $7.65.

Note: If you’re a NAB customer, you won’t be charged a transaction fee as NAB pays for this service for their customers. Just present your NAB debit/credit card for a fee free transaction.

How to change your cash at the Post Office

  1. To convert coins to notes, first sort your coins into the correct coin bag denomination (coin bags are available at Post Offices).
  2. Take your coin bags / cash notes1 to the counter.
  3. Request the denomination you need.2

No, the only cost is the transaction fee, which NAB has agreed to pay to Australia Post on behalf of their customers.

Yes, but we don’t accept coins provided in zip lock bags or freezer bags.

If the transaction takes place after 11 August 2022, take the receipt and your NAB debit/credit card back to the Australia Post outlet where the transaction took place and ask them to reverse the fee.

Cash exchanges are a time-consuming transaction (both accepting and dispensing coins), which our Post Offices are not compensated for. Additionally, there is a cost for ordering and delivering cash which enables this service to be offered. For these reasons, a transaction fee has been introduced to support the service.

Currently, NAB is the only financial institution to provide the service. Other financial institutions may offer this service in the future. If they do so, this information will be communicated by the institution.

Yes – a flat fee of $4.50 applies for amounts up to $400. Amounts of $401 to $1,000 will cost $8.50. Amounts over $1000 will be processed as separate transactions.
